(ABC 6 News) – In honor of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, children at Woodson Kindergarten Center held their own parade full of balloon animals Monday afternoon.

Over the last week, the kindergartners were reading the story, “Balloons over Broadway” and teachers at Woodson thought the best way to teach children about being thankful is by doing their own parade.

Each child spent days planning and designing their balloon to show off to the school.

“With the pandemic happening. the last couple of years we haven’t been able to be together,” explained Andrea Larson, a teacher at Woodson. “Now today and tomorrow we’ll be celebrating togetherness, gratitude for one another, our school, and our families. Having this parade has been a great way of seeing everyone throughout the building.”

While the parade only lasted 30 minutes, the school was buzzing with excitement from students and teachers. Balloon creatures like minions, pigs, monsters and even fruit roamed the halls of Woodson, and the children were proud to be a part of it.
