Spring-like weather returns through weekend

The bitter wintry cold that gripped the area earlier this week is now long gone as we take the leap right back into spring-like warmth through the weekend.

Friday will be a bright and sunny day with high temperatures in the low-to-mid 50s with some upper 50s possible especially in northern Iowa.

The weekend will start with sunshine for Saturday. A surge of warmer air will send temperatures into the low 60s which will be near-records for the day.

Sunday will be warmer yet with highs temperatures in the upper 60s to lower 70s which will likely break records for the day.

A cold front will slide through the area in the late Sunday afternoon and evening timeframe which may lead to a light shower. A rumble of thunder is also possible.

Temperatures will cool off behind the front with highs in the 40s heading into next week.
