Smoke Plumes from Waseca fire

Sunday was a day that featured gusty winds and low humidity. It allowed for a Red Flag Warning originally issued for central Iowa to be expanded northward for ALL counties in southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa.

Due to the gusty winds, the fire and the smoke (the latter of which is visible on radar) were allowed to spread fast. With the cold front through our area as of 6 PM Sunday, winds will become less gusty and we will have more humidity to work with locally. This will help crews battle the fire, but dry vegetation from the lack of rainfall or snowfall the past few months will still make this fire challenging to put out regardless.
