February wrap-up and March preview

February 2024 is in the books as the calendar page flips over to March.

The average temperature for the month finished at 32.6° which is 13.9° above the climatological normal of 18.7° making it the warmest February on record in Rochester. Temperature data dates back to the late 1800s. The warmest day was February 26 when the high temperature reached 69°. The coldest morning low was 3° set on February 28.

The month finished well below average in precipitation with 0.34″ recorded which is 0.68″ below the monthly normal. Snow didn’t fair that well either with just 2.0″ recorded which is 8.7″ below the monthly normal.

The month of March brings good news as it is the fastest warming month. The average high temperature goes from 32° at the beginning of the month to 48° by the end. The average low temperatures increases from 17° at the beginning to 30° by months end.

The month averages just over 2.00″ of precipitation and 8.6″ of snow so winter is far from over.
