UPDATE: Worth Co. Sheriff’s Office identifies victim in fatal house fire

(ABC 6 News) – UPDATE 1/27/22: The Worth County Sheriff’s Office has identified the person who died in Wednesday’s house fire in Northwood, IA as 54-year-old Douglas Alan Braun. A second occupant in the home and a deputy were taken to the hospital, treated and released that same day.

The Sheriff’s Office said at this time no foul play is suspected, but that the case is still under investigation.

According to the Worth County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a house fire on the 200 block of 14th Street South in Northwood around 3:38 a.m. Wednesday.

When the first deputy arrived they were able to evacuate one person before the house became fully engulfed in flames.

The Sheriff’s Office said a second deputy arrived and efforts were made to evacuate a second person, but were unable to due to the extent of the fire.

The first resident and a deputy were taken to Mercy One Hospital in Mason City for smoke inhalation, the second person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The State Fire Marshal has been contacted and the Sheriff’s Office said the case is under investigation at this time.
