UPDATE: Victim identified in Albert Lea house fire

(ABC 6 News) – UPDATE: Albert Lea Fire Rescue has identified the victim of an August 13 house fire as Garth D. Conklyn. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined that his death was accidental, caused by soot and smoke inhalation.

Albert Lea firefighters and police responded to a fire at Conklyn’s home at 1712 Eberhart St. at 2:15 a.m. Saturday.

The Albert Lea Fire Department and the Albert Lea Police Department responded to a call about a house fire around 2:15am Saturday at 1712 Eberhart St. When they arrived they were informed by a neighbor that there could still be a person in the house. Upon the search of fire crews they found one person, who was transported by ambulance to the Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea, where they eventually died.

The cost of the damages caused by the fire are estimated around $27,000. The cause the of the fire is undetermined at this time. The regional investigator from the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s office is assisting with the investigation.
