UPDATE: Rochester woman identified in fatal Hwy 52 crash

(ABC 6 News) – The Minnesota State Patrol has released more information on a fatal crash that happened on Wednesday, December 15 around 9:14 a.m. on Highway 52.

According to the crash report, eleven people in six vehicles traveling northbound were involved in the crash; three passenger cars and three semi-trucks. The state patrol said 65-year-old Bonita Sawyer, of Rochester, was a passenger in one of the vehicles and died as a result of the crash, the 67-year-old driver of that vehicle was taken to Saint Marys Hospital with life threatening injuries.

The driver and passenger of another vehicle involved were also taken to Saint Marys with non-life threatening injuries. One semi-truck driver was also suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a fatal crash on Highway 52 between Zumbrota and Pine Island.

The state patrol said the crash involved three commercial vehicles and three passenger cars. The crash is labeled as a fatal crash but the state patrol did not provide information on how many fatalities or which vehicle they were in.

The highway in the area of the crash is expected to be closed for several hours.

Several crashes are being reported on Highway 52 north of Rochester.

One crash is reported between Pine Island and Oronoco. MN 511 cameras in the area show a semi in the median and another vehicle in the northbound ditch. The crash is blocking both lanes of northbound traffic.

A second crash is reported between Pine Island and Zumbrota where northbound traffic is closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles. The road is expected to be closed until around 11:30 a.m.

A spokesperson with the Minnesota State Patrol tells ABC 6 News there are people hurt in the crashes but wasn’t able to provide details at this time.
