(ABC 6 News) – Iowa Republican Sen. Joni Ernst along with nine other Senators are back in the United States after a weekend visit to Poland and Germany.

The visit was to lead a bipartisan Senate delegation to show American support for Ukraine as the war with Russia continues.

Ernst said the Ukrainian people, who the delegation met, continue to ask for more weapons. The group met with U.S. Military leaders along with Ukrainian refugees.

Senator Ernst says she left a letter to President Joe Biden urging him to act faster and forcefully stop Vladimir Putin’s invasion. More than 40 Republican Senators have signed the letter.

‘While we knew that we would be going into a refugee center and would see a lot of folks in severe hardship, I don’t think our hearts were fully prepared for what we saw and again many of them are broken-hearted really want to get home," Ernst said.

Ernst says once Ukraine wins this war, Vladimir Putin will be held accountable for the war crimes that have been committed including the bombing of schools and hospitals.
