RPS makes adjustments to its school calendar to focus on meeting students’ needs

(ABC 6 News) – Rochester Public Schools is adjusting its schedule throughout the rest of the year so staff can focus on planning to meet students’ needs during the pandemic.

In an email to parents and staff on Tuesday, interim superintendent Kent Pekel said the district will plan to take four days following Thanksgiving so staff can focus on staff planning to meet students’ needs during the pandemic, and well-being activities.

“We hope the Thanksgiving/Fall break this week provides some time for your family to enjoy time together celebrating the holiday or enjoying traditions, whatever they may be. I know this school year has been particularly challenging as we continue to navigate the pandemic. We’re going to take four Wednesdays on the other side of the Thanksgiving break. That are going to be days where we are going to ask our families not to have students come to school. So that we can focus on staff planning to meet students’ needs during the pandemic, and well-being activities.."

The dates are:

  • December 8
  • February 9
  • April 20
  • May 11

School-Age Child Care (SACC) will be available on these days for families currently enrolled in SACC
