Rochester school board reconsiders school start times

(ABC 6 News) – The Rochester school board sat down to discuss changing the system’s school start times once again Tuesday night.

After moving RPS’ start times to the later morning in January 2021, board members have heard from staffers that elementary students perform better earlier in the day.

The school district’s changing boundaries and transportation system will affect the final decision, superintendent Kent Pekel said.

After retrouting and map drawing, the school district plans to add five bus routes, costing about $300,000 next year.
The school board is considering having elementary students start school at 8 a.m., while secondary students begin their days at 9:15.
