Rochester man dies after tree falls on him on Wednesday

(ABC 6 NEWS) – The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office said a Rochester man died after a tree fell on him Wednesday night in Haverhill Township.

Around 8 p.m. Wednesday, the sheriff’s office received a 911 call for a report of someone struck by a tree in the 3500 block of Collegeview Rd. E in Haverhill Township.

Witnesses told deputies that 65-year-old Keith Dickman of Rochester went outside during a gathering to smoke a cigarette.

Shortly after Dickman went outside, the tornado sirens went off and the group went into the basement and noticed Dickman was not there.

Deputies said when the sirens stopped one of the witnesses went to look for Dickman.

The witness found that a tree had fallen on his pickup and Dickman was lying next to his truck underneath the tree, according to deputies.

Witnesses tried to remove the tree and start CPR, Dickman was eventually taken to Saint Marys Campus and later was determined dead.

Deputies believe the tree was about 40 feet tall and broke about 10 feet up from the base.
