Rochester man accused of damaging cars and RPT bus, assaulting police officers

(ABC 6 News) — Rochester police got a call around 7:00 p.m. about a man who was causing a disturbance in the area of 7 St. and West Silver Lake Drive NW.

According to Rochester Police Captain Casey Moilanen, there was someone in the road in that area, so traffic was a bit backed up. Capt. Moilanen said 28-year-old Mahamed Abikar of Rochester went up to one of the stopped vehicle, a Rochester Public Transit bus, and began punching the bus’s windshield and tried to break the windsheild wiper.

Then, Abikar allegedly kicked another car, threw a bottle at the windshield, and tried to open the car doors. When he walked away from that car, police said Abikar began fighting with someone who was in the area.

When officers got there, they arrested Abikar, but said he grabbed an officer in the groin as they were putting Abikar into the back of the squad car.

Once the officers got Abikar to the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center and were going through the booking process, they said he spit in an officer’s face.

Abikar is facing a number of charges, including assaulting a peace officer, damage to property and disorderly conduct.
