(ABC 6 News) – Fire sprinkler systems in a northwest Rochester apartment complex played a significant role in preventing a fire from spreading Wednesday afternoon.

Just before 2 p.m., fire crews were called to the 3700 block of Technology Drive NW for smoke, flames, and water spray coming from a fourth-floor window.

Many residents had evacuated the building and firefighters deployed its aerial ladder to check the roof of the structure.

Once the fire was extinguished, crews used fans to remove the smoke from the building and other equipment to remove water from the sprinkler activation.

No one was injured in the incident and damage estimates have not yet been announced.

The Rochester Fire Department said the apartment building was built in 2019 and its automatic sprinkler system was critical in keeping the fire from spreading.

These systems not only help protect life safety but also aid in a community’s economic resiliency.
