(ABC 6 News) – Friday was a magical day for thirteen couples as they got a second chance at re-creating a major high school memory.

PossAbilities is a local group designed to teach and provide support for children and adults with disabilities. One of their programs called STARS, which focuses on adults with disabilities, hosted the prom.

The day started with a grand march, followed by lunch, pictures and dancing. Program directors say this gives members a chance to experience things that they never got to do in high school.

"It’s so fun to see everyone’s smiling faces and how much fun they’re having," Sarah Storandt, STARS program manager, said. "It’s just such a great experience for not only the participants but also the staff."

Many of the members have been looking forward to this day for a very long time.

"I was so excited to do this with my boyfriend," STARS program member, Aoife O’Reilly, said. "It was so fun and I can’t wait to do it again next year."

The prom goers and staff at PossAbilities all agree that the day was a major success and are looking forward to many more proms to come.
