(ABC 6 News) – In February, the Mason City Community School District announced their new superintendent. Pat Hamilton will begin the position on July fist and has a new vision for the district. Hamilton says the best way forward is to build upon the good things that are happening in Mason City and to make the schools the center of the community by working with local businesses and community leaders to find opportunities for students.

"We want our students to leave Mason City with a good feeling about the community, about the school district and we want it to be a place where students want to land when they are done exploring life as they see it and want to stay and raise a family and be strong members of the community."

Hamilton added that he wants to find creative ways to serve students and staff in challenging times, by giving them the tools they need to succeed.

"It’s like anywhere in the state you want to try and make a difference in any job you have. And I hope that I have the skill set to make a difference, to build upon the great things that are already happening in Mason City and take on some of those challenges that all school districts face," said Hamilton

Even though there are some challenges in his new position, Hamilton says he’s excited to work with the students and staff in the district in July.
