Man accused of killing pregnant girlfriend, her 2-year-old daughter found competent

(ABC 6 News) – The man accused in the death of his pregnant girlfriend and her 2-year-old daughter has been found competent.

Renard Carter appeared in court Thursday afternoon where he was deemed competent. He’s been charged with two charges of 2nd-degree murder and 2nd-degree murder of an unborn child.

According to court records, Carter pled guilty to the charges in mid-July 2021 after taking a plea deal. In early August 2021, a request was filed to retract the guilty pleas entered by Carter. In late August an order to evaluate Carter’s competency was filed.

A date for a future hearing has not been set.

Carter faces the charges in relation to the death of Keona Foote and Miyon Miller in September 2020.

According to the criminal complaint, Carter allegedly used a cellular phone power adapter to wrap around her neck.

During the investigation, officers learned that she had been in a recent six-month relationship with Renard Carter. The three had been residing together for the past thirty days.

Investigators obtained information from a witness that Carter sent a message two days prior that he was going to kill the mothers of each of his children.

Officers spoke with another witness, that said three people heard Carter speaking to the victim in August 2020, and was threatening to kill her, her 2-year-old and the unborn baby.
