Local teen wins the 2022 fencing state championship

(ABC 6 NEWS) – Over 50 young fencers gathered from around the state for the 2022 fencing state championship.

State has been canceled because of COVID-19 the last two years, but Mateo Wilkins, a junior at John Marshall High School, came out on top and took home the gold.

He’s the top youth fencer in the state.

Mateo fences for the Youth Enrichment League of Southeastern Minnesota and he’s coached by his father Kamau Wilkins.
