Local musher participating in John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon

(ABC 6 News) – The John Beargrease sled dog marathon is underway in northern Minnesota and winners have already been declared in two of the three races.

A local musher is participating this year. Damon Ramaker, an ER Nurse at Mayo Clinic is racing his team called "Deep Root Life."

The event started Sunday morning at Billy’s Bar in Duluth, where hundreds of fans came together to cheer on the dogs and mushers along the route.

The 120-mile race wrapped up early this morning just before 4 a.m.

The 300-mile race is expected to finish sometime Tuesday evening in Grand Portage.
