(ABC 6 News) – Students at Lewiston-Altura Elementary have been busy fundraising for the Fools Five Road Race which benefits cancer research.

Their efforts, paired with additional donations, totaled $23,604.

The Fools Five is Minnesota’s largest road race, but it has been on hiatus for the last two years due to the pandemic.

6th grader Alaina Barkeim was the top fundraiser this year, bringing in nearly $1,600. For her efforts she won a bike and turned right around and gave that bike to the auction benefiting the race.

The live auction is Friday, April 1 at the Lewiston Community Center, doors open at 4 p.m. with the auction starting at 5 p.m. The Fools Five race starts Saturday, April 2 at 1 p.m. on Main Street in Lewiston.
