(ABC 6 News) – Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch is hosting its annual ‘Families of the Fallen’ retreat this weekend.

The getaway brings together families who have lost someone during military service. It’s a time for people to grieve together, find support and do fun activities.

"It’s not all just the person that’s serving it’s the spouses, it’s the kids, it’s the parents that are just worried about their kids when they’re deployed," Tracy Bashore, executive director of Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch, said.

Bashore said the program is also designed to help take their mind off of tragedy for a while.

"It’s a time sometimes to just forget about the pain. But they never forget it. It’s always there with them," he said.

The weekend getaway is completely free to the families and is a part of Ironwood Springs ‘Operation Welcome Home.’

The group went ziplining, shot apples, went horseback riding and painted pumpkins.
