(ABC 6 News) – The Hayfield Vikings baseball team has been one of the hottest teams throughout the early going of this prep baseball season.

The defending state champs average about 13 runs a game and entered their Thursday contest against Maple River riding a 3-game winning streak.

Both teams scored a run in the first inning without registering a hit. In the second inning, sophomore Zander Jacobson got the first hit of the game with a double up the middle. He went 2-for-3 on the day.

Easton Fritcher struck out 10 and did not allow a hit over 6 innings. His two-run homer in the fifth ended up being the difference-maker as they went on to win 3-2.
