Former Brooklyn Center officer offers possible defense points in killing of Daunte Wright

(KSTP) – On Thursday, attorneys representing former Brooklyn Center police officer Kim Potter laid out some possible talking points for their defense in the upcoming trial, such as claiming the incident was an "innocent mistake."

Court filings show that Potter’s attorneys Paul Engh and Earl Gray filed a notice of defenses that outlines four possible options.

In them, the defenses include "innocent accident," "innocent mistake," "her perceived use of a Taser was reasonable," and "lack of causation." Other defenses could be introduced at a later date, pending further review of "voluminous" evidence, according to court documents.

Potter fatally shot Daunte Wright during a traffic stop in April. The former officer is heard yelling "Taser!" on her body camera while holding her gun and proceeding to shoot Wright. The shooting led to days of protests.

Potter is charged with one count each of first-and second-degree manslaughter. Her trial is expected to begin on Nov. 30.
