(ABC 6 News) – Friday afternoon in Albert Lea community members and fans of Eddie Cochran gathered at frank hall park to honor the late rock n roll legend by changing the former James Avenue to Eddie Cochran Street.

Cochran rose to fame in the 50’s and 60’s. And today was the perfect day to honor the singer of the ‘summertime blues’ by dedicating a street in his name.

People from all across the u-s.. And even England were there for the celebration.

"This is a huge event for the city of Albert Lea. Every year we do this and its just a lot of fun to get the community together, get people in from all over southern Minnesota and northern Iowa, come in to just enjoy some old rock and roll music, to enjoy the cars up and down Broadway and just a good time for family and friends," said Albert Lea 1st ward city councilor Rich Murray.

"We love Albert Lea its the second time we’ve been back. People are so friendly just to be close to where he grew up. He was a big thrill for me," said Dave James of England.

Following the dedication there was a cruise in to Broadway Avenue.
