A Blast from the past took over Downtown Rochester over the weekend. Disco balls, a DJ and a lot of roller skates covered Peace Plaza.

Thousands of people gathered into the plaza for Rochester’s first annual “Roller Disco”. The event took place Saturday and Sunday.

People of all ages rented free roller skates, complimentary for the event, and skated around the outdoor roller rink in the plaza with their friends and families. The event also featured a live DJ on stage.

After a difficult year for many, people were excited to be able to come together again.

“We really wanted to throw an event that would make people smile,” Executive Director of Rochester Downtown Alliance, Holly Masek said. “All summer has been about bringing people back together after COVID and we’re still going through some bumps and bits and starts with that. We really wanted an outdoor event that all ages could come and enjoy and celebrate a little bit together.”

Aside from the roller rink, the event also featured food trucks, vendors and even face painting for the kids.
