Dancing for the Arts returns to Rochester

(ABC 6 News) – The annual event Dancing for the Arts is back in Rochester this year for its ninth year.

After taking two years off because of the pandemic, organizers and the public were eager for the event to return to the Mayo Civic Center.

Local Rochester celebrities practiced their dancing skills for many weeks with their professional dance partner.

ABC 6 News’ Account Executive Ron Hanson danced as a local celebrity.

All money raised went toward youth arts education.

"It’s euphoric. It’s a celebration and it is so much of the strength of the arts community in Rochester. It’s great to be here and to have everyone here," board chair of Greater Rochester Arts & Cultural Trust, Susan Mackert, said.

ABC 6 News Director Brianna Cook emceed the event with Chris Fierst, owner of Half Barrel in Rochester.

Celebrity judges this year included Sheriff Kevin Torgerson, Lisa Clarke, Mitch Stevenson and Sharon Gentling.

Some big winners from the night included Zachary Peterson and Katie Cook – winning judge’s choice.

Dr. Anjali Bhagra and Gary Dahl were the big winners who raised the most money.
