Cold weather creates challenges for fire crews
(ABC 6 News) – With temperatures dropping area fire fighters are seeing an increase in cold weather related challenges from the equipment hooked to the truck to the gear the crews wear.
"Nozzles and hose lines have a tendency to freeze up, especially if they’re not flowing water. Any type of pipe holes or axes become slippery, your gloves freeze up and you can’t get a good handle on them," said Rochester Fire Department Captain Ben Davis.
It was also noted that crews need to be switched out more often to avoid injuries or cases of frostbite.
