(ABC 6 News) – It was a beautiful Wednesday in Clear Lake for the ground breaking of a new Habitat for Humanity home, and the start of an exciting journey for a single mother.

Tamara Peterson, a single mother of three originally from Indiana moved to Clear Lake, IA roughly 3 years ago.

"I lived in Indiana and then I moved to Illinois for a little bit and it was just too expensive. And I love the four seasons I like winter fall spring and summer and so someone was like you should just checkout Iowa, I think it’ll be a great move," said Tamara.

Though she has a stable well paying job, she said she was still struggling to find the right home for her family. Her and her three kids are cramped in a three bedroom town home, but through Habitat for Humanity she was able to get a suitable home.

"Space. Like my kids get there own room now and that was not a thing before. I was struggling trying to figure out how we were gonna spread out," said Tamara.

‘We were really impressed by Tamara’s background and her dedication to her family. She has a phenomenal stable job and she is a really dedicated member of this community and we’re really excited to help partner with her family," Habitat for Humanity Board President. Jennifer Beister.

On Wednesday, Tamara’s family, Habitat for Humanity and many members of the community gathered for their traditional ground breaking ceremony and a prayer to bless the the new home.

"We’re really excited about this opportunity for Tamara and her family, and it’s always a moving and fun experience to celebrate with our families, the change of their life and new chapter," said Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Melissa Schoenberg.

And for Tamara she couldn’t be more thankful for this opportunity to change her family’s life forever

"It has been beyond amazing and it has completely changed our lives and I just can’t be even more grateful than what I am right now," said Tamara.

Tamara will be active in the building process by helping out on the construction site as well as taking classes to prepare her to be a successful home owner. Construction is expected to start sometime in July.
