(ABC 6 News) UPDATE: – A standoff in northwest Austin that has lasted more than 24 hours will end without resolution.

Police say they will no longer pursue a standoff, as they do not want to escalate the situation for the safety of all involved.

Austin police Captain Todd Clennon said they will be scaling back their resources for the evening but will remain on the scene as the incident continues.

Police have said the situation was considered a "mental health crisis involving weapons" and that the individual has access to multiple knives, and a hammer.

Clennon also says they have used every non-lethal avenue to get the man in custody and get the help that he needs.

Austin police, Austin fire, and the SWAT team all assisted in the incident.
