(ABC 6 News) – The Albert Lea City Council will be rezoning two vacant lots into light industrial buildings.

The council approves the rezoning during the August 8th city council meeting.

Earlier this year, the city requested proposals for the lots on Spark and Belmont Ave. Broadway Home Design proposed to build a 3,500-square-foot warehouse and office on the lots.

A move councilman Jason Howland the community doesn’t want.

"There are a number of residents who do not want to see the particular side of the street as an industrial building," Howland said. "It’s adjacent to homes and because of that I will be voting no tonight."

Despite Howland’s statement, when the time came for public comment, no one stepped up to voice their opinion.

The council then voted and approved the rezoning by a majority vote.
The council later voted and approved a purchase agreement to set the property price at $5,000.
