Additional Similac baby formula recalled after reported infant death

(ABC 6 News) – Abbott Laboratories has issued a voluntary recall on one lot of Similac PM 60/40 cans and cases from its Sturgis, Michigan manufacturer, this recall is in addition to a voluntary recall issued earlier in February.

The recall was issued Monday, February 28 and involves cans of Similac PM 60/40 with lot #27032K80, and for cases lot #27032K800.

In an notice, Abbott states the additional voluntary recall was issued after the company learned of a death of an infant that tested positive for Cronobacter sakazakii and had reportedly consumed Similac PM 60/40 from this lot.

Abbott said the case is under investigation and that the cause of the infant’s Cronobacter sakazakii infection has not yet been determined.
