Walk with an Artist event comes to life in Rochester

(ABC 6 News) – Thursday, the Rochester Art Center had a unique exhibit that wasn’t on display, but rather performed.

It’s called ‘The Heron’s Hunt’ and is a part of the series titled ‘Walk With an Artist.’

The exhibit was presented at Mayo Memorial Park in Rochester, and those who attended were able to follow the artist, Jessalyn Finch, through the interactive live action sculpture garden.

Finch said her inspiration came from her countless walks along Bear Creek to and from downtown.

“So it’s meant to mimic the interactions between the heron and all the local aquatic species. It’s also meant to emphasize that as we are watching nature, nature is watching us back. So, these are living breathing sculptures that will watch you back just as much as much as you will look at them,” said Finch.

As part of the event, actors put on masks representing local species, bringing the sculpture garden to life by acting out nature scenes as well as interacting with guests.

Finch said each mask took between 6-10 hours to make, and were created with cardboard, hot glue and latex paint.
