(ABC 6 News) – Iowa Democrats are pushing back against a proposed “Don’t Tread on Me” license plate.

Democrats say they don’t have a problem with the plate itself, it’s where the money from the sale of a plate goes.

The bill would send money to organizations affiliated with the National Rifle Association, a firearm lobbying group, to pay for training and education on the right to bear arms.

In an act of protest, the Democrats have added 29 amendments to the bill to include specialty license plates with messages including “Don’t Tread on Public Schools,” “Feed the Kids” and a plate protesting Major League Baseball television blackouts.

However, the protest was short lived, as Democrats pulled most of their amendments.

The bill was passed in a 60-34 vote.
