Osage baseball stunned 11-10 in 2A-3 Championship

(ABC 6 News) — The Green Devils of Osage high school were on the cusp of making the baseball state tournament with the Dike-New Hampton Wolverines standing in their way.

With Mason City as the battleground, the crowd settled in for Tuesday’s Class 2A-3 Championship, seeing fireworks right from the start.

Practically minutes into the top of the first, Osage’s first run came off Max Gast’s RBI to send home Nolan Heard for the 1-0 lead. Landon Arends subsequently followed suit with an RBI of his own as did Heath Voigt, quickly turning the lead into a 3-0 deficit.

Then, Luke Scharper reinforced the Green Devils’ intentions with a 2-run home run for a 5-0 lead. By the time the first inning was over, Osage was on top 7-2, but shockingly, that lead would crumble.

The DNH Wolverines continued to claw their way into the game before taking decisive victory in the seventh, winning 11-10 to end the Green Devils’ season and go to State.

Osage finishes the 2022 baseball season with a 20-5 record.
