(ABC 6 News) — It’s not often that baseball ends in a tie, but for the Mayo Spartans’ VFW team it wasn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Sunday evening they faced off against Cannon Falls Post 4452 and trailed 5-3 after two innings. In the bottom of the third, the Spartans cut the deficit to one after Cannon Falls pitcher Jackson Eckstrom’s wild pitch allowed Drew Pearson to come in and score.

Alec Sadowy took the mound for the Spartans and he made sure Cannon Falls would not add another run as he struck out several batters.

Mayo’s Matthew Stelley helped put the Spartans in a position to tie and possible take the lead with a single in the bottom of the fourth, but Cannon Falls got out of the inning with a double play.

Mayo would eventually tie the game at 5, where it went into extra innings and was called once the night sky became prevalent. The result though clinches a hosting bid for Mayo during the division playoffs.

As for Mayo’s legion team, they lost to Onalaska 6-2.
