Albert Lea puts Mayo on brink of elimination with VFW playoff victory

(ABC 6 News) – The Mayo Spartans VFW team looked to follow the lead of the elder Legion team and get a victory over Albert Lea at home.
The stakes were higher though, as it was the division playoffs.
Albert Lea led 6-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning and put together a rally. They got their first run of the game on a triple from Liam Williams. A throwing error brought him home. They got another run on 2 more errors, but Albert Lea’s Spencer Jones would get a strikeout to get out of the inning. Albert Lea held on in the 7th to get the 6-3 victory.
Because of the double-elimination format, Mayo will get another chance. They will have to defeat Stewartville Sunday at 1 pm to get a rematch with Albert Lea.
