(ABC 6 News) – A popular Rochester coffee company is expanding into downtown in the spring.

Fiddlehead Coffee Co. will open its fourth location inside the first floor of the Kahler Grand Hotel.

“We’re so thankful to have such an amazing opportunity to reclaim this historic and prime location from a giant multinational chain. To be a small family-owned company taking on the big guys for the local economy…well, it’s pretty darn great. My career in coffee started over 20 years ago at an independent shop that was shuttered within a year of Starbucks moving in across the street. Taking over a successful space from them, well, there’s some poetic justice in there somewhere,” says owner, Patrick Phelan, who has been battling a brain tumor during the pandemic with the help of his care team at Mayo.

“I get to caffeinate the minds that saved my life, make breakfast for the nurses and hospital staff who held my hand through some of my life’s darkest moments, and who routinely blow me away with the quality and earnestness of their care. Words cannot express how this feels. Suffice it to say that we’re deeply honored to be a part of this extraordinary community and to play a small part in fueling the greatest minds and biggest hearts in medicine.”

The new location inside the hotel will also "feature a rotating selection of local art to be curated and managed by Threshold Arts. Artwork will change every 6-8 weeks and will be available for purchase while in the cafe. Local artists who are interested in having their work featured at this site can learn more at thresholdartists.org/artist-opportunities
