Riceville cancels school Tuesday due to no power

(ABC 6 News) – The Riceville Community School District canceled classes on Tuesday due to no power.

In a Facebook post, the district said there was a power outage resulting in the boilers being out.

District officials released an official statement saying:

Dear Wildcat Families,

Due to not having power today, 1/31/2023, we decided to cancel school. This was not an easy decision. When we are delayed 2 hours, we have to make a decision on whether to send the buses out at 8:25 a.m. At the time, we had no power. The estimated time was 9:30 a.m. on the Alliant website with no guarantee of it turning on. We understand the power turned on shortly after making the call, but we are working to ensure our boilers and other district systems reboot and come back on.

We made the decision with the data we had at the time, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

The district said Tuesday’s sporting events and bake sale are still on as planned.
