(ABC 6 News) – Thursday, Destination Medical Center leaders approved using $800,000 dollars of the state DMC fund to redevelop Rochester’s downtown riverfront.

City government and DMC officials went over next steps for the massive project in a joint meeting Thursday.

450,000 dollars will be for land acquisition and 350,000 will be for design engineering.

Mayor Kim Norton says calls this a dream realized.

“For me, as a new mayor in 2019 who was really excited to do something, this was one of the somethings that I started to do. And we are now starting to realize that, so I’m particularly interested,” said Norton.

The city will develop around 6 acres of land around the Zumbro river. DMC says site design and engineering work will be completed in 2023.
