Three announce bid for Cerro Gordo County Sheriff

(ABC 6 News) – Three servicemen from Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office have announced they will run to fill the recently vacated sheriff position.

Earlier this month, Kevin Pals announced he would not seek reelection as Cerro Gordo County’s sheriff, leaving a 23-year-long legacy with the county.

In his stead, Brian Koob, Matt Klunder, and David Hepperly currently vie for the county’s sheriff position.

Koob has racked up nearly 20 years of experience in law enforcement at county and state levels; he states he served as a volunteer firefighter, dispatcher, jailer, Deputy Sheriff and Motor Vehicle Enforcement/State Trooper.

Koob has served with Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s office for 17 and a half years total; 3 and a half in dispatch and at the county jail, 14 as a sheriff’s deputy.

Klunder has served with Cerro Gordo County since 1998, collecting 25 years so far.

Since 2004, Klunder has served as a narcotics investigator with Cerro Gordo; he was also sworn in as a Special Federal Officer for the FBI. Since 2012, he has worked as the office’s night shift patrol supervisor.

Hepperly serves as Cerro Gordo County’s Chief Deputy Sheriff, with a 22-year history with the sheriff’s office.
