Student Voices Day, weighing in on SRO law

(ABC 6 News) – While a lot of young students take the day off of school for President’s Day, some headed to the Minnesota capitol to testify before lawmakers.

Today is Student Voices Day at the state capitol, students will weigh in on the controversial school resource officer law, which passed in 2023.

Lawmakers are currently working to clarify the plan of the bill.

But student and community advocacy groups argue the law should stand as is, saying approving exemptions for officers to use violence in schools could put students at risk.

The bill is making its way through committee, but could come for a floor vote in the house or senate within a matter of days.
