(ABC 6 News) – During tonight’s Rochester Public School’s board meeting, members of the board officially accepted Mayo Clinic’s $10 million donation.

The donation will help the school district sustain its plan for academic transformation and avoid closing down schools and gutting school programs.

Board members expressed gratitude for Mayo’s commitment to the community’s education as the district continues their plan for student’s success, after a dip in performances in 2022.

“To me, this is just an extension of that legacy. Not only of the Mayo name, but of Mayo’s commitment to supporting education in our community,” said RPS board chair Cathy Nathan. “We will be grateful for that as we move forward with our strategic plan and our plans to support our students’ success.”

The district will add Mayo’s donation to RPS’s original budget, which will be submitted and possibly approved on June 18, 2024.
