(ABC 6 News) – A bill allowing pharmacists to issue over-the-counter birth control is now advancing in the Iowa House.

If passed, House Study Bill 642 would allow people to purchase over the counter birth control without needing a prescription.

The bill would also remove certain barriers, making it easier for people to get more birth control when their supply runs out.

Opponents of the bill say leaving a doctor out of the equation will hurt women.

The bill now heads to a health and human services committee.
