(ABC 6 News) – 30-year-old Connor Bowman has been charged with second degree murder after police say he poisoned and killed his wife, Betty Bowman, back in August.

Neighbors of the pair were shocked to hear the news and it led them to ask more questions.

“Generally like it’s a safe neighborhood, you never see police out here so for something out of the blue like that to happen we were trying to piece together what it might be.”

Many of the neighbors lived there well before August and they said they rarely saw the two.

“We’d always wondered who was in the unit you know there’s people you know in this area who are out and about a lot and there are people who stay to themselves, and I think they stayed to themselves.”

The toxicology report showed the 32-year-old had a large amount of colchicine in her blood.

Her husband had allegedly been doing research on the drug, including how much of it could kill someone.

Police received a tip about Betty and Connor’s rocky marriage.

It was something their neighbors didn’t pick up on.

“I hadn’t noticed anything personally, not until everything went down, I met Betty once or twice while she was out walking the dog.”

Police has been onto Connor for the last two months.

Court documents showed he had a suspicious search history including “internet browsing history: can it be used in court?” “Police track package delivery.”

While neighbors never knew what was truly happening behind closed doors, one recalls overhearing some of the commotion.

“One morning there was a bunch of their dogs were barking over there a whole bunch and I might’ve heard a little shouting or something while we were sleeping, and then sure enough the cops kind of came soon after.”

Court documents also showed Connor was in severe debt.

Friends of Betty called police to say he was after Betty’s life insurance policy.

Inside the home, police found a receipt for $450,000 deposit to his bank account.

Connor Bowman was arrested on Friday.

In a statement on Facebook made by Betty’s best friend Mary she says:

Connor Bowman is being held on a $2 million bail with conditions and will be back in court on November 1st.

Friends of Betty has set up a GoFundMe on behalf of her family to help with upcoming costs associated with the trial.
