Hayfield man facing charges after weekend stabbing in Dodge Center

(ABC 6 News) – A Hayfield man is being held on a $200,000 bond after allegedly stabbing a friend in Dodge Center Saturday afternoon.

34-year-old Tyler Stroud is currently being held in Steele County Jail on a charge of second-degree assault, fifth-degree drug possession, felon in possession of ammunition, and two counts of misdemeanor weapons possession.

The Dodge County Sheriff’s office said at about 12:40 p.m. Saturday, deputies responded to a 911 call of a stabbing in Dodge Center.

Upon arrival, deputies found a 30-year-old male victim and his wife who reported their friend, 34-year-old Tyler Stroud of Hayfield, was at their home. After reportedly refusing to leave, a confrontation ensued, where Stroud allegedly stabbed the male victim and then fled in a vehicle.

The victim was transported to St Marys Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. As of early Tuesday afternoon, the victim was still at St Marys Hospital.

Just before 2 p.m. Sunday, deputies were alerted that the Minnesota State Patrol was following Stroud in that same vehicle.

Multiple vehicles from State Patrol, Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, and the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office had been following the vehicle, without lights and sirens in hopes of safely taking Stroud into custody without risk of harming him or others on the roadway.

Stops sticks were used on Highway 14 by Dodge County deputies in an attempt to stop the vehicle safely but the Stroud drove around the sticks.

After traveling through Dodge and Olmsted counties, deputies initiated a felony traffic stop at a stop sign at 11th Street and Olmsted County Road 5. Stroud was arrested and taken into custody without further incident.
