(ABC 6 News) – Albert Lea intends upgrade the City Arena, Aquatic Center, Marion Ross Performing Arts Center and the splash pad with a newly approved $11.8 million upgrade budget.

The resolution allows the city council to lay the groundwork of how they will pursue each project monetarily.

“Going from investigation and moving over towards more of starting to actually set up the potential for the construction projects,” city manager Ian Rigg said.

The city council will decide which process they wish to pursue and enter a contract with Apex Facility Solutions to design the projects.

From there, the council will accept project bids and get to work.

There’s still a lot of work to do before we get to that point, like how the city fully plans to fund it.

Some possibilities include using equipment certificates and election bonds.

The council will meet on Jan. 22 to discuss all and any funding opportunities.
