UPDATE: Rochester man held on multiple 1st-degree drug charges; investigated using “trash pulls”

(ABC 6 News) – A Rochester man arrested over the weekend was charged with four drug felonies in Olmsted County Court.

Charles Paul Tix, 49, was charged Tuesday, Jan. 16, with two counts of 1st-degree drug sale, two counts of 1st-degree drug possession, and one count of user of controlled substance in possession of a firearm.

According to court documents, Olmsted County deputies claim that they arrived at Tix’s NW Rochester residence, found him snow-blowing his driveway, and immediately found two hypodermic needles, a baggie with psilocybin mushrooms, a baggie of suspected methamphetamine, and a large amount of US currency in his pockets.

According to court documents, law enforcement then knocked on the door of the home and searched the residence, allegedly finding a safe with 993 grams of presumptive methamphetamine, 59.7 grams of presumptive cocaine, and a “large amount” of money.

Deputies claim they also found two guns — a 0.357 revolver and a 0.22 caliber long rifle.

Court documents claim that Tix told investigators all substances in the house were for personal use.

Tix also told investigators all controlled substances were held in the safe, according to court documents.

However, search warrant documentation filed Jan. 16 lists multiple other locations, such as “meth in corner shelf,” “meth in black can” on the coffee table, “loose meth under bed.”

According to the search warrants filed Jan. 16, Olmsted County law enforcement learned in November of 2023 that Tix was suspected of selling drugs, and conducted “trash pulls” in early December and January, which allegedly resulted in the detection of trace amounts of methamphetamine and cocaine.

Tix is currently held in the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center on $100,000 bail with or without conditions.

His next court date is set for Jan. 30.
