Structure fire in Rochester, RFD warns of smoking safety

(ABC 6 News) – Rochester Fire Department responded to structure fire call at around 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 23 on Parkview Lane in southeast Rochester.

When RFD arrived, fire crews found light smoke coming from the structure, suggested crews prepare for an interior attack.

No injuries were reported at the scene.

Damages are still being estimated.

RFD released the following statement in response to the incident.

RFD would like to remind citizens of smoking safety. The Minnesota State Fire
Marshal reported that smoking is the leading cause of fatal fires. Most of the fires were started by
cigarettes in the living room or bedroom. If you smoke, smoke outside. Discard of cigarettes in a
deep, sturdy ashtray filled with water or sand. Do not smoke while using medical oxygen or near
medical oxygen.
