(ABC 6 NEWS) – On Tuesday, second graders at Kasson-Mantorville Elementary School took part in an engineering and construction day.

This is a part of a series called Immersive Experiences Day.

Representatives from McNeilus Steel, the Minnesota Department of Transportation, Benchmark and NextEra Energy Resources were at the event.

We’re told they had a lot of fun educating students about their industry.

“I mean, this is, always fun! For the kids, they get to do something they wouldn’t normally do and they’re learning something about real world engineering stuff. It’s a lot of fun and they have a great time,” Larry Norte, senior technical program manager for Benchmark said.

This program has been going on in the district for three years, giving kids a chance to learn something new.

“I want to be someone who wants to build the bridges,” second grader Gibson Richards said.

The event is the first of five scheduled at the school.

In February, third graders will learn about the fine arts.

Over the five courses, kids might be able to figure out what they want to be when they grow up.
