Austin VFW hosts dart tournament for Paint the Town Pink
(ABC 6 News) – The Austin VFW hosted a casino-style dart tournament on the final weekend for Paint the Town Pink.
Saturday’s dart tournament wasn’t just an excuse for friends to get together for some fun, but to support a cause close to the heart of Austin.
This year’s second annual tournament was a chance for friends, old and new, to come together in the name of cancer research and Paint the Town Pink.
The game of darts truly is a family affair.
“I’ve been playing darts for 40 years, and some of the people I played with 30 to 40 years ago are here today, and comin’ to play darts and support,” says VFW Post 1216 Commander, Scott Wiechmann.
He goes on to say, “dart players are great, they know this is a fundraiser and it’s great to have this many people here.”
Experienced players say the key to a good dart throw?
“A good solid stance; your legs are solid, your shoulder’s locked your arms are locked, and everything sits right there,” said Scott Quam, Tournament Director.
Last year the VFW donated $2,000 dollars to match the money raised in donations, and this year they’ve pledged to do exactly the same.
