Visit Mason City encourages community to vote in Red Bull Contest

(ABC 6 News) – Visit Mason City encourages public participation in the Red Bull Soapbox Race Iowa 2022 People’s Choice Award.

The soapbox derby will be held on Saturday, June 18th at the Iowa State Capitol Complex in Des Moines.

Featured in this year’s race is a family of soapbox race fans from Mason City. ‘Trouble In River City’ was one of 50 teams selected to participate in the highly competitive application process.

The Red Bull Soapbox Race is a competition in which amateur teams see who can navigate their homemade cart the fastest through a downhill course, filled with obstacles and potential crashes, in front of a crowd of tens of thousands.

In addition, a People’s Choice Award will be presented to the team that receives the most votes. Fans can cast one vote per day from June 10-18, 2022 on Red Bull’s website.

"Winning the People’s Choice Award would represent everything that we’ve been saying from the beginning. We would love nothing more than to show everyone that we truly have the best fans, supporters, and community,” Team Trouble In River City said in a statement.

"This is a great opportunity for the area residents to rally together to show our community spirit and support for our local team. I can’t imagine there’s another team in this race that has put as much thought and energy into representing their community,” said Lindsey James, Executive Director of Visit Mason City. “We’d love to see Mason City at the top of the hometown pride roster!"

Visit Mason City is encouraging the community to vote daily for Team Trouble In River City.
